Tanya Hoddinott’s work had its birth in collage and painting, her large gestural paintings reflecting a playful fascination with ancient history and mythology. Transferring images onto painted surfaces was a tool used to explore ideas about identity and psychological variations.
Over the last decade, Hoddinott’s work has evolved even further into a multi-faceted practice centred around a concept of restoration, time and memory.

Witnessing the effects of a volatile climate on the Australian landscape and with a deep physical connection to her surroundings, Hoddinott has become involved in heritage land and building restoration, responsible for the regeneration and documentation of over six rural properties.
Incorporating this into an ongoing art project, Tangible Memory, she uses elements of collage, sculpture, paint, photography and video media, to explore archives of memory, time and place creating a unique foundational narrative to her creative practice.

Hoddinott has exhibited widely since 1994 and has been a finalist in numerous awards, including the Alice Prize (1997), John Leslie Prize (2000) and the Fleurieu Biennale Art Prize (2000). Her work is included in public and private collections internationally.
Hoddinott lives and works in Southern Queensland, Australia.
